For those of you who have the high-priced retired items (e.g. Felicity's clothes press, Josefina's piano, Josefina's farm, LE outfits, sweet potatoe set, etc.)...which of those do you think are worth the prices that they usually go for? Just trying to figure out what I should try to get.
Thanks
Sarah

Interesting question...
I have a couple of the LE outfits and while I love them, I don't think that they are worth the price they go for on ebay.

I don't really think the outifts are worth that much, because usually you can find them for a lower price if you just keep looking and are patient. Also, someone could sew a replica if you get really desperate (I did that with Addy's Patriotic outfit and it is gorgeous).

I would and have purchased retired things that are actually accessories, furniture or dolls. Things that are made of quality materials like metal, wood, cloth etc. or that perform a function in one of the AG stories (like Molly's radio, Addy's sweet potato set, etc). I can't see paying over $100 for anything though. That to me is just insane - unless you are wealthy enough that that is just disposable income for you. (I'm not there yet! Smile!) Then again, some people spend that much on a pair of shoes that will be out of style in a year. So who knows! I think the best advice has already been given. Buy things that you like, so you will always get enjoyment value from them no matter what the market resale prices may be.

I have all of those items- I think that the clothes press would be the best because you can store stuff inside it.

You know now that I tihnk of it, it is a matter of what you want when you want it. I bought a Coach brand wallet and am upset now that it is getting dirty. Same with the purses. The leather gets worn in. I have Molly's radio too and I think it is wonderful. If I didnt I would probably pay 80 dollars at most for it. I have the Molly set with her ear drops and tissues and see someone selilng it for 200 dollars! No one ever buys it either...I cant figure them out

It really is a matter of what it means to you, I think.

I have some of the LE outfits and shake my head at the prices they go for on eBay and think 'I'd never pay that! It's not worth it' but at the same time I'm not about to list my outfits. So in a way, they are worth that to me.

I've seen Lindseys on BIN for almost $500 and I think that's ridiculous, but I don't think $300 is out of line.

If it is something you love, that you've wanted and wanted and will enjoy playing with/displaying/having and you can afford it, it's worth it.

I really want Kirsten's Plaid dress that is retired, but the only that's been on eBay for awhile is $75! Which is think is too much.

OT- I have a funny story about Molly's camp set with the bugs! When I started getting interested again in AG, I went to my mom's house and packed up all my old AG accessories in a big black trashbag. When I got to my apartment I dumped out the bag on the carpet and out came the plastic ants from that set. I thought they were REAL and was screaming and trying to squish them! Then I realized I was trying to kill part of my Molly's camp set lol

I paid around $50 each for Kirsten's Checked "On the Trail" Dress and Plaid Dress sets (complete and mint) and thought it was worth it. I also bought Addy's Stilting outfit with the stilts for about $50 and I think it was worth it. I paid far less for my other retired outfits.

I also thought Addy's Sweet Potato set was worth it, but I got a good deal (around $35, in a lot).

Stuff I bought at average ebay prices, and later resold for the same amount because it just wasn't worth it:
Addy's Winter Fun
Addy's Bandbox
Felicity's Shrewsbury Cakes
Felicity's Winter Entertainments
Sam's Summer Amusements

I'm debating about Felicity's Town Fair, because it's price is exorbinant. I'd be happy to pay $50, but $100-200 for one doll dress is too high for me. It's not like it's a OOAK or anything.

Overall, if you're patient, you can generally find good deals in lots or stuff that is just mislabeled. But you have to search every day and be very patient.

The only things that are really worth paying the price for to me is the furniture like Felicity's Clothes Press or Josefina's Piano. Most everything else will come down in price if you can catch it on a regular auction with a few exceptions (like Felicity's Town Fair outfit). For instance, I would so not pay $100 for Felicity's Travel Trunk. It's only 6 inches wide!!! I think that's just a little too much to pay IMO.
